Winchester Hockey Club Oracle Edition 55

U16 Boys

vs Amersham & Chalfont - 11-0

The U16 boys started their campaign in Amersham last weekend having worked hard through the summer. Teamwork has been very much the theme through training and they defiantly looked the part with everyone sporting their TDG tops. Finn was named captain and took his team for the warm up.

The first half started with an immediate attack and George scored within a minute but Amersham responded with a very high press. Winchester’s response was keeping possession and being patient so it took 25 minutes for the next goal as Tom bounced at the top of D; then Monty scored on 33 minutes as Winchester started to find a way through. Monty scored again a minute later with a superb strike that went straight in the roof of the net.

Second half and three minutes in, George scored his second of the afternoon. Two minutes later Monty got his hat-trick and gaps started to appear on the pitch halfway through the second half. First Eddie scored, then Bertie; Rory added two and then Will got himself on the scoresheet. A great start to the season and plenty to work on as we look forward to hosting Oxford in two weeks.

U14 Boys

vs Salisbury - 4-2

Scorers: Nat (2), Vincent, Duffy

The first game of 2023/2024 saw a home game against Salisbury for the U14 boys. With the new season brings new players moving up the years and so the team was a mix of experienced players and those keen to prove themselves.

Salisbury started the game the stronger with lots of pressure for the back four of Reid, Hines, Benno and Goddard. Winchester eventually found the width but couldn't find the goal and found themselves 1-0 down despite Carter's best efforts in goal. They rallied and new striker, Nat, scored a goal to level the game at half time.

Catching their breath at the break and resetting for the second half saw Winchester dominate play resulting in goals from Nat, Vincent and Duffy with only one in response. A great performance for a newly formed team with plenty of promise for the season ahead.

U16 Girls

Vs Trojans - 1-2

Vs Southampton - 0-3

Good opening matches for the newly formed U16 girls. They fought well in both matches but unfortunately both resulted in a loss. As a group we have highlighted some areas to work on and we are sure the next games will have better outcomes.

It was lovely to see all of the girls back on the pitch and enjoying their hockey and we are all looking forward to a great season!
