Ladies 1's drop two points in dying seconds
Winchester Ladies 1 v Aldershot & Farnham 1 - D 1-1
Winchester Ladies 1’s played their first post Xmas League game against Aldershot & Farnham on Saturday 25th Jan. The long Christmas break afforded by the league seemed to show, with the ladies struggling to gain momentum in the first half.
Re-starting with greater pace in the second half, centre forward Sarah Johns put away a clinical goal, opening up a little breathing room for the Winchester side, and they began to find their stride, keeping possession and creating some excellent chances. Despite serious Winchester pressure, the forward line failed to find the back of the net again, hitting the post twice, and forcing some excellent saves from the Aldershot keeper. But in the dying seconds of the game Aldershot threw a hail Mary pass through to their forward who won a short corner taking the game into stoppage time. After a Winchester defender broke early leaving 3 defending the final short, Aldershot converted cleanly taking the game to a 1-1 draw.
Some disappointed faces coming off the pitch for Winchester, who will be looking to put in a much improved performance next week against Southampton, are currently at 4th place in the table, only 2 points ahead of Winchester.
