Winchester travelled up the A34 to face an energetic Oxford University side, arriving full of confidence after back-to-back wins. In dreadful conditions, both teams struggled to settle, with neither able to capitalise on early errors. The deadlock was finally broken in the second quarter when Oxford converted a well-worked penalty corner to take the lead.
The response from Winchester was immediate. Sharp play from Ed Kirkpatrick down the left carved open the Oxford defence, and a clever back-post finish from Ben Hibberd levelled the scores before half-time.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Oxford unable to establish any real control as Winchester patiently waited for their moment. It came courtesy of pressure on the home defence, forcing a mistake that Ben Anthony pounced on clinically to put the visitors 2–1 ahead.
From there, Winchester closed out the game with maturity and composure, securing their third consecutive victory and continuing their impressive run of form.
