Men's 1st XI vs Trojans 1

Winchester's final game before the mid-season break revealed no surprises as Trojans forged ahead with their table topping, zero points dropped, assault on South Central Premier Division 1. However, for much of the game, the home team were competitive and threatened to break Trojan's unblemished record.

Keeper Seb Eaton had to make an early save from a penalty corner, but it was a flowing open play goal that saw Giles Hocking begin the scoring on ten minutes. The second quarter was Winchester's best with George Allmark powerfully intercepting and driving dangerously at the opposition defence. Trojan's crept further ahead from a penalty corner converted by Ben Frost but Winchester's greater influence on the game paid off when Will Leyland picked up the ball from a penalty corner breakdown and lashed home a reverse strike to make it 1-2. Another corner saw Kieran Molloy blast just wide to give Winchester hope at the midway point.

Despite their optimism, Trojans emerged from the break as the stronger team, able to find their men with greater ease and attack rapidly and effectively. Another penalty corner resulted in Trojan's third which came as Eaton made two great saves but his clearance quickly found its way back into the "D" and Hocking found the net again. This was quickly followed by a fourth scored by Frost, finding the top left hand corner from his corner drag-flick. 

The final quarter was not for the faint-hearted as the game became more physical and players were sent to sin bins or worse. Winchester still had opportunities, Molloy forcing a good save with a clear shot at a penalty corner and Sam Headley's deflection being well saved. This was a brief period of hope for the home team, but Trojans finished strongly and with Winchester down to nine, Hocking completed his hat trick and then added a fourth; the first a clever finish from a tight angle and the final goal, sliding in at the far post from a left side pass.
