Winchester travelled to top 3 side Bournemouth for an early push back. Starting quickly, the away team made several penetrating plays to shock the confident home side. The quarter finished goalless with about 4 circle penetrations each.
The second 17 minutes was decisive. Ben Boon scoring the opening goal with a calm overhead placed shot from a loose high ball. The home team then had a fast break with Winchester labouring to get back following an avoidable attacking turnover. Harry West netting in an open 2 on 1. The misery of this quarter was compounded when a James Pawley slip on the wet pitch and ankle injury allowed another overload and Morgan Goldsack to add a third.
Winchester rallied in the second half, (an overall 1-1 draw) and scored first with a scrappy deflected goal awarded to Jack Holloway for his maiden first team goal. The club are confident much tidier goals will follow in his career!
Bournemouth drew this third quarter with a well placed Harry West PC flick.
Winchester had two injuries in this period, Steve Poole nastily rolling his ankle in tight defence and Will Leyland damaging his shoulder and a head collision from a tough Bournemouth midfield move.
Man of the match which saw several good saves across the game went to Seb Eaton in goal.
The final quarter as last week, saw Winchester threaten frequently on the break. This often came through the classy James Pawley and Nick Clark aerial threat. Sadly Ben Anthony this week could not convert despite going close several times.
Winchester should be pleased with a competitive attitude against a very strong Bournemouth. The focus on taking chances and reducing high field turnovers continues, but the team have every chance of staying in the league if they keep this positivity and effort going
